Today we’re talking wedding etiquette: guest edition. As fun and celebratory as weddings are, they also come with a bit of responsibility. If you’re lucky enough to get invited, it’s only right that you show up prepared. You can do this not just with a gift, but with good guest energy. Here are a few things every wedding guest should keep in mind.

Respect the Photographer

When you see the photographer moving through the crowd or angling up to get ready for a shot, don’t freeze up or try to assist. The best thing you could do is make way without getting in the shot. Photographers are contracted to capture key moments. Let them do their thing!

Fill in the Front

FIll up the font seats first. That way everything looks nice and full for photos and video. There may be rows reserved for bridal party and family, but it’s best to start filling in seats as close up as possible.

Avoid Certain Colors

This should go without saying, but I am going to bring it up anyways. Do not wear white. Unless there is a specific theme , white is the #1 color you want to avoid as a wedding guest. Depending on the couple and cultural traditions, red might be off limits as well. If you are unsure if there is a dress code or theme, check the wedding website.

Don’t wait until Last Minute

If you’re hoping to get a photo—solo, with your date, or just because you looked good—don’t wait until the very end of the night. Photographers are usually booked for a set amount of time. Unless the couple specifically requested coverage of a late-night moment, like a send-off, chances are they’ll be gone before the last song. If you see a photographer during downtime and they’re not in the middle of something, ask for a quick photo. They’re usually more than happy to snap one if time allows.
