Your wedding day will be full of excitement, emotion, and once-in-a-lifetime moments. My job is to make sure they’re all beautifully documented. A little preparation goes a long way in keeping things running smoothly and your photos looking effortless. Here are five simple tips & tricks to help your wedding day flow seamlessly from the lens’s point of view.
Before my team gets there, if the bridal party could take just a few minutes to tidy up your getting-ready space, that would be awesome. A neat, relaxed background helps everyone focus on you and the people you’re with. No water bottles, overnight bags, or clothes lounging around in the shot. It’s a simple little thing that really makes your photos look even better!
Gather all your special details in one place so they’re ready for me to photograph when I arrive. For the bride, this might include your jewelry, perfume, garter, shoes, hanger, rings, and ring box. For the groom, think cologne, tie, cufflinks, watch, shoes, and any other personal touches. Having everything in one spot saves time and ensures nothing gets overlooked.
If possible, have one or two copies of your invitation suite on hand — they make for beautiful flat lays alongside your accessories. And if your bouquet has already been delivered, even better. Fresh florals add a gorgeous pop of color to your detail photos.
If there’s anything personal or sensitive in your family situation such as divorced parents, sibling disagreements, or the loss of a loved one, please feel free to share that in your wedding questionnaire. Knowing this upfront helps me handle group photos thoughtfully and ensures everything goes smoothly for everyone.
Be sure to let your coordinator know you’d like your media team to eat when you do. It might sound small, but it matters. When you’re on break, that’s the only natural pause we get all day too. If we eat at the same time as you, we won’t miss any toasts, dances, or surprise moments. Your break time is our break time, and it helps us stay ready to capture the next big moment the second it happens.
Taking these small steps helps the day feel less rushed and allows me to focus on what matters most: capturing the magic as it naturally unfolds. You handle the little details. I’ll handle making them into memories that last forever.
